2025 Player Outlook
As the team's primary shortstop in 2024, Rocchio slashed .206/.298/.316 with eight home runs, 50 runs scored, 36 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. While he plays a solid defensive shortstop, his presence in the box is not quite as impressive, as he posted a first percentile hard hit rate, first percentile xSLG, and second percentile average exit velocity. He needs a lot of volume (AKA at-bats) to accumulate his stats, and his excellent glove work will buy him time before Cleveland would even think to make a switch. He should be better than last year in terms of his batting average, and he'll have an opportunity to be a member of the 10/10 club. However, outside of deeper AL-only setups, you likely won't be looking at Rocchio.
Player News
Brayan Rocchio, currently in an 0-for-17 slump, is on the bench for a second straight game Monday.
Rocchio is down to .183/.258/.220 for the year, and his defense hasn’t graded out particularly well, either. The Guardians are going with Gabriel Arias at short and Daniel Schneeman at second again today. Rocchio has to be in significant danger of getting sent to Triple-A.
Brayan Rocchio is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Red Sox.
Rocchio will take a seat for the first of the three-game set against Boston. The 24-year-old infielder will get a break with Gabriel Arias moving to shortstop and Daniel Schneemann getting the start at second base.
Brayan Rocchio went 0-for-3 against the Yankees on Tuesday, leaving him with a .237/.319/.271 line this season.
Rocchio has hit a little better these last two weeks, but he might need to pick it up further, especially now that Will Wilson is up. He’s just yet to show much of a ceiling through 189 big-league games, with Fangraphs putting him at 0.9 WAR to date. The Guardians have alternatives at short if they wanted to send him down for a spell.
Brayan Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s tilt against the Padres.
It’ll be the first day off of the year for Rocchio. The 24-year-old slick-field shortstop will get the day off with Gabriel Arias handling his duties and hitting eighth.
