Brewers placed RHP Aaron Ashby on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 24, with a strained right oblique.
Ashby hasn’t pitched since March 3, so even though he should be about recovered from the oblique strain by now, it’s going to be a while before he contributes, particularly if the Brewers intend to bring him back as a starter.
Aaron Ashby (oblique) will be shut down from throwing for two weeks.
Ashby, 26, got better news after receiving a second opinion on his oblique injury. The hope is that the southpaw will be able to build up as a starter, but with only three weeks left until the start of the season, there’s a very good chance Ashby will begin 2025 on the injured list.
Aaron Ashby is seeing a second opinion on his oblique injury.
Ashby was removed from Monday’s start with an oblique injury. An MRI revealed a strain, but the severity of the injury is unclear according to manager Pat Murphy. The 26-year-old left-hander is in danger of missing the start of the season, and unfortunately injuries have become a recurring problem for the talented southpaw.
Aaron Ashby was removed from Monday’s spring start against the Reds after 22 pitches with an oblique strain.
Not great. Ashby will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue following a second-inning exit from Monday’s start against Cincinnati. The 26-year-old lefty has battled injuries the past few years, which have prevented him from claiming a permanent spot in Milwaukee’s starting rotation. The addition of veteran lefty José Quintana likely relegates Ashby to a versatile swingman-type role where he’ll get the occasional spot start, while also soaking up multiple frames in bulk relief outings. There should be an update on his status in the coming days.
