Harris has been jettisoned to the minors to make room for recently-added lefty Angel Perdomo, who was claimed off waivers over the weekend from the Angels. The 28-year-old lefty has made 36 appearances (15 starts) for the Athletics over the last three seasons.

Harris provides Oakland with some extra length and versatility moving forward after spending the last month in the minors. The 27-year-old southpaw holds a strong 2.98 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 42/25 K/BB ratio across 54 1/3 innings (11 appearances, nine starts) this season in the big leagues.

With Ross Stripling and Paul Blackburn rejoining the Athletics’ rotation on Thursday and Friday respectively, the A’s suddenly faced a roster crunch. Harris, 27, had posted a 2.98 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 42/25 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings in 11 appearances (nine starts) for the Athletics this season. He should get another opportunity at the big-league level before the season is through.
