Kelly had been cruising in the sixth inning — allowing just one run on two hits and a walk over 5 2/3 innings — when he was lifted after only 81 pitches. Fortunately, it sounds like a minor issue and not one that should cause him to miss his next start. Fantasy managers should monitor his status over the next couple of days though to be on the safe side.

Kelly struck out a total of seven batters in 15 innings over his first three starts, which helped explain his 7.20 ERA. He’s down to 5.57 now after accruing 13 whiffs and posting a 33% CSW tonight. He’ll face the Cubs in Chicago on Sunday.

Kelly got into trouble early against the Orioles, giving up a walk, hit, and hit batter to load the based for Cedric Mullins, who knocked a base hit to drive in two runs. He was able to escape the jam with a ground ball double-play. The 36-year-old right-hander was able to recover nicely, keeping Baltimore off the board for five innings before leaving in the seventh with two runners on. Kelly will draw a good matchup against the Marlins in Miami next Tuesday.

Kelly gave up four in the first and two in the third, but the Diamondbacks tried to get more out of him, seeing as they have no days off until next Thursday. It might have cost them the game, as Kelly allowed three runs in the fourth in a contest they went on to lose 9-7. Kelly, who beat the Cubs his first time out, has a 9.00 ERA after this one. He’ll be a weak play in mixed leagues against the Orioles next week.
