2025 Player Outlook

Hoerner has at least 20 stolen bases and a .270+ batting average in three straight seasons, and there’s nothing that suggests that 2025 is the year that streak comes to an end. He has excellent contact metrics, and his 89.1 percent contact rate was a career high last season. While you can’t project him for anything past 10-12 home runs, he’ll give fantasy managers stolen bases and a plus batting average. Hoerner is locked into an everyday role, and so long as you plan for his dearth of power, he’s a solid target at second base.

Hoerner knocked a base hit in the second inning, then singled in the sixth for his second hit. Leading off with the game tied in the tenth inning, he drove in the go-ahead run with a triple. The 27-year-old second baseman is hitting well in the early going, slashing .328/.371/.391 with 11 RBI and six steals across 70 plate appearances.

Nico Hoerner had three hits, including an RBI double, and two steals against the Padres on Sunday.

With six steals in nine games, Hoerner has been extra active on the basepaths. He’s also struck out just once in 40 plate appearances and is batting .361, so there’s a whole lot to like about his start.

Nico Hoerner is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

The Cubs will likely give Hoerner a few days off in the early portion of the season as he missed most of the spring while recovering from elbow surgery. He should be available off the bench, but Jon Berti gets the start at second.

Nico Hoerner (elbow) returned to the Cubs’ starting lineup for Thursday’s stateside opener against the Diamondbacks.

After missing the two games of the Tokyo Series against the Dodgers, Hoerner is back in there at second base and batting sixth for the Cubs against Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks on Thursday. His return shifts Jon Berti back to a reserve role for the Cubs and saps him of any fantasy relevance.
