Not great. Rodriguez, who opened the season on the injured list with elbow inflammation, was shut down from throwing last week after experiencing shoulder soreness and underwent an MRI that revealed a “mild” lat strain. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde added that Rodriguez has been symptom-free in recent days, but won’t resume throwing again for a few weeks. It certainly sounds like fantasy managers shouldn’t expect Rodriguez back until sometime in the second half since he’ll need a complete spring training-style build up.

You know that it’s not good when they don’t announce what the MRI revealed, only that they’re seeking another opinion. The 25-year-old right-hander was shut down from throwing and scratched from his bullpen session on Thursday after experiencing soreness in his shoulder. It’s starting to look increasingly likely that Rodriguez may not throw a pitch in the big leagues this season.

That’s not what you want to hear. The 25-year-old right-hander had thrown a couple of bullpen sessions as he was working his way back from inflammation in his pitching elbow. This is obviously a major setback, the scale of which won’t fully be understood until the O’s get the results of the MRI exam. At this point, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll pitch in the big leagues at all during the 2025 season.

Rodriguez will throw his third bullpen session later this week, but Orioles general manager Mike Elias told reporters that he still has “a lot” ahead in his recovery from right elbow inflammation. It certainly doesn’t sound like Rodriguez is close to heading out on a minor league rehab assignment any time soon.
