Braves optioned OF Jarred Kelenic to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Jarred Kelenic is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the DIamondbacks.
Kelenic has not been successful whatsoever to begin the 2025 campaign, and Atlanta will go with Eli White in the lineup even with right-hander Merrill Kelly on the bump for Arizona. Kelenic has shown glimpses of being a competent outfielder, but they have been too few and far between. Kinda sad.
Jarred Kelenic homered and struck out three times against the Padres on Friday.
Jarred Kelenic finished 0-for-4 with a GIDP and two strikeouts against the Tigers on Saturday.
Signing Alex Verdugo certainly doesn’t mean the Braves are giving up on Kelenic, but it does give them some insurance in case they choose to do so at a later date. Kelenic hit just .231/.286/.393 in his first season in Atlanta, and he’s come in at .190/.261/.405 this spring. He’ll open up as the right fielder against right-handers, but he does have options left if the Braves want to send him down after Ronald Acuña Jr. returns.
