Gerson Garabito allowed one earned run in 3 ⅔ innings against the Twins on Sunday. He struck out two and walked four.
The Rangers are looking for pitching depth wherever they can get it and Garabito got the call on Sunday. He was wild, but the Twins could not square him up. He had just a 7.8 BB% this season at AAA along with a 29.4 K%, so the walks may have been debut nerves or just one of those days. His slider looked especially nasty despite only throwing a handful and could be a difference make for him if he gets another turn in the rotation.
Rangers selected the contract of RHP Gerson Garabito from Triple-A Round Rock.
Garabito is making the start for the Rangers on Sunday against the Twins. The right-hander will be making his MLB debut after nine seasons in the minors, and he had a 2.05 ERA in the minors this year with a 37/10 K/BB over 30 2/3 innings. Shaun Anderson was designated for assignment in the corresponding transaction.
Giants signed RHP Gerson Garabito to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old native of the Dominican Republic spent seven minor league seasons in the Royals organization, registering a 3.43 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 484/251 K/BB ratio across 577 frames. In 2019, he posted a 3.77 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 113/60 K/BB mark in 141 innings at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. He'll add rotation depth in the minor leagues for the Giants.
