Emmanuel Rivera is starting at third base and batting eighth for the Orioles on Thursday against the Twins.
Ramon Urias was activated off the IL on Wednesday, and both he and Rivera started one game of Wednesday’s doubleheader, but it will be Rivera back in the lineup on Thursday. It’s possible the Orioles are just being cautious with Urias fresh off the IL, and we’d still expect him to take over for Rivera, especially against right-handed pitching.
Emmanuel Rivera went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against the Twins on Thursday.
Another reason to think that Coby Mayo’s stay with the Orioles will be short. Rivera was quite fortunate today, picking up his hits on balls in play with xBAs of .330, .260 and .140 (he struck out in his other at-bat). Mayo was used as a DH with Rivera at third and hit balls 109.3 and 106.5 mph, but he had only one single to show for it.
Orioles selected the contract INF Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A Norfolk.
Rivera provides the Orioles with some extra infield depth with starting third baseman Jordan Westburg hitting the injured list with a hamstring strain. The 28-year-old should get some opportunities against left-handed pitching, but he can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
Orioles 3B Emmanuel Rivera cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk.
Rivera was waived by the team last week but will be back with the Orioles and in spring training where he’ll look to solidify his role as organization depth at the corner infield spot.
