Amaya got the Cubs on the board with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning, trimming their deficit to two runs at 3-1. That would be as close as they would get though. The 26-year-old backstop has had a phenomenal spring, hitting .542 (13-for-24) with a pair of homers and four RBI.

Amaya gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead with an RBI double off Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the second inning. That would be the last run of the game for Chicago with Yamamoto and the impressive Dodgers’ bullpen cruising from that point on. It’s nice to see some early success for Amaya and it’s worth noting that he ended the 2024 season hot, but there’s reason to look elsewhere for a starting catcher in the majority of fantasy formats.

Amaya is 5-for-6 to start the spring. The Cubs followed through on their threat to bring in a veteran catcher over the winter, but Amaya figures to get the majority of the time over Carson Kelly initially. There were times last year when it sounded like the Cubs were really down on Amaya’s future, but he did help his cause by hitting .289/.341/.482 over his last 28 games.
