Rockies placed INF Tyler Freeman on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 11, with a left oblique strain.
Freeman hits the injured list after suffering an oblique strain during batting practice prior to Saturday’s game against the Padres. No word yet on the severity of the injury, which will determine how much time he misses. It’ll probably be a couple weeks, even in a best-case scenario.
Tyler Freeman was scratched from Saturday’s lineup with oblique soreness.
Freeman was slated to start in center field on Saturday night but got hurt during pre-game batting practice. MLB.com’s Thomas Harding adds that top prospect Adael Amador could be recalled if it’s serious enough to require a trip to the injured list.
Tyler Freeman is starting at second base for the Rockies on Thursday against the Phillies.
Kyle Farmer has started four of the last five games at second base and has gone 3-for-13 to start the season. Freeman has the versatility to play all over the field but second base is his best chance to break into the lineup regularly.
Tyler Freeman went 1-for-4 with a single and a stolen base in his Rockies’ spring debut against the Brewers on Sunday.
Freeman, who was acquired from the Guardians for Nolan Jones on Friday, started at second base and batted leadoff for the Rockies on Sunday. He led off the game with a single off of Elvin Rodriguez, but wound up stranded at third base. Freeman then reached on a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning and swiped second base, but the Rockies couldn’t cash him in. He’s expected to see fairly regular action at second base for the Rockies with Thairo Estrada (wrist) sidelined.
