Mariners signed INF Leonardo Rivas to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old infielder spent the 2022 season in the Reds organization where he slashed a paltry .228/.318/.344 with seven homers, 35 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 95 games between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville. He'll function as organizational infield depth for the M's at Triple-A Tacoma to begin the season.
Mets re-signed RHP Manuel Alvarez to a minor league contract.
The 27-year-old split his 2022 season between the Mets and Guardians organizations, posting an uninspiring 7.75 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and a 50/33 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 innings -- mostly at the Double-A level. He'll continue to function as minor league bullpen depth for the Mets.
Reds acquired INF Leonardo Rivas from the Angels to complete the Raisel Iglesias trade.
Rivas, 23, is a switch-hitting shortstop who signed with the Angels all the way back in 2014. He has a career average of .252 in his 386 minor league games and has hit just 15 homers in that timeframe, but he's a slick defender who can also provide some value on the bases. Rivas could compete for a spot on the Reds' bench this spring, but there's not much fantasy appeal in his profile.
