Pirates designated INF Diego Castillo for assignment.
The Pirates needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster to make room for Austin Hedges and Castillo drew the short straw this time around. The 24-year-old hit just .201/.245/.368 with 10 long balls and one stolen base in 257 plate appearances with the Pirates during the 2022 season. There's a decent chance he'll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to serve as depth for the Buccos.
Pirates recalled INF Diego Castillo from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Castillo was sent to the minors back in late July, but will get another shot in the majors over the final few weeks of the regular season. The 24-year-old rookie infielder, who set the fantasy landscape ablaze with a torrid spring training performance, has hit .201/.245/.368 with 10 homers and one steal in 257 plate appearances this season in the majors.
Pirates optioned INF/OF Diego Castillo to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Castillo will go down to Triple-A with the return of Bryan Reynolds from the paternity list. The 24-year-old has hit .201/.245/.368 while flashing some power with ten homers across 257 plate appearances.
Diego Castillo went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's loss to the Brewers.
In the top of the fourth, Castillo hit a 395-foot two-run home run over the left-center field wall -- the 10th home run of his MLB career. Castillo has gone yard twice over his last nine at-bats.
