Adams made a wild throw on a Conner Capel steal attempt, allowing Capel to go on to third. Many expected the Nationals to move on from the arbitration-eligible Adams after he spent the final five weeks of last season in the majors, but they kept him around to compete with Drew Millas for the backup catcher job. That he’s out of options and Millas still has two remaining should give Adams an edge here. However, the Nationals shouldn’t be too worried about that, since even if Adams exits the organization, they’d still have Andrew Kinzler in Triple-A as depth.

Adams was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to a wrist contusion, but the fact he’s back just a couple days later shows how unserious the injury was. Adams will be the backup backstop for the Nats in 2025.

Adams was hit in the wrist by the pitch Friday, and while the 28-year-old was slated to return to the lineup, the Nationals will give him some extra rest. The backstop already underwent X-rays that revealed just the contusion, so he should be back in Grapefruit League games in the coming days.

Adams has his first homer of the spring with the grand salami. The 28-year-old will be the backup backstop to Keibert Ruiz for the 2025 campaign.
