2025 Player Outlook
Gallen saw his strikeout rate decline for a third-straight season, as it fell to 25.1 percent in 2024. His 8.1 percent walk rate and 3.65 ERA also represented three-year highs. Gallen is still on the right side of the age curve at 29, and he pitches for a D-backs team that should be in Wild Card contention down the stretch. If he can halt the free fall of his strikeout rate and return his walk rate to 6 percent range, Gallen has a chance to be a fantasy ace again.

Zac Gallen yielded six runs in six innings against the Cubs in a loss Saturday.
All of the runs scored in the first two innings. Gallen recovered to retire 13 of the final 14 batters he faced, but the damage was done. Gallen has typically been better than most at avoiding the home run ball, but his groundball rate is lower than ever right now, and he gave up two homers today, bringing his season total to five in 27 1/3 innings. There’s still some mixed-league value here, but he’s a No. 4 or No. 5 these days. He’s due to make his next start versus the Braves.
Zac Gallen posted a quality start in a no-decision against the Brewers on Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits over six strong frames.
Gallen struck out five batters on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. The only blemish on his day came on a two-run blast off the bat of William Contreras in the opening inning. The 29-year-old right-hander settled in nicely afterwards and blanked the Brewers the rest of the way, setting the stage for the Diamondbacks to come back. He generated nine swings and misses on 89 pitches in the game, posting a CSW of 31 percent. On the season, Gallen now holds a 4.64 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 24/11 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings through his first four starts. He’ll square off against the Cubs his next time out at Wrigley Field on Saturday.
Zac Gallen was charged for five runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles on Monday.
Zac Gallen allowed three hits and no runs with 13 strikeouts in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Wednesday.
What a turnaround for Gallen compared to his poor start on opening day. He had significantly better command of his patented knuckle-curve and it sent the Yankees spinning with a whopping 13 swings-and-misses. Overall, he forced a career-best 25 whiffs and tied his career-high with 13 strikeouts. His fastball was a bit spotty, but his knuckle-curve, slider, and changeup were all so nasty that it didn’t matter at all. He’s lined up for a two-start week coming up against the Orioles and Brewers.
