Ryan Walker worked a scoreless ninth to procure a save Saturday against the Mariners.
Ryan Walker slammed the door on the Astros on Tuesday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run advantage.
Walker didn’t show any ill effects of the back tightness that sidelined him over the weekend, needing just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to retire Isaac Paredes, Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker in succession. The 29-year-old right-hander has now converted each of his first two save chances while compiling a 3.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 2/1 K/BB ratio across his first three innings.
Giants’ manager Bob Melvin told reporters after Sunday’s game that Ryan Walker was held out of action due to back tightness.
That’s why he brought on Camilo Doval instead of Walker to protect a three-run lead in the ninth inning against the Reds. Fortunately, the Giants believe that it’s a minor issue and that Walker should be ready to go on Monday. While you’d like to take the manager at his word, it’s a situation that fantasy managers should monitor before setting lineups for next week.
Ryan Walker recorded a save despite allowing a run in the ninth against the Reds on Thursday.
Working with a three-run lead, Walker hit a batter with two outs and then watched him score on a single after taking second on indifference. There was a momentary holding of breath afterwards, as Matt McLain hit one to the warning track in left. It was caught with a few feet to spare, though.
