Mets selected the contract of LHP Genesis Cabrera from Triple-A Syracuse.
Cabrera had a 3.59 ERA in 69 appearances for the Blue Jays last season, but he was then cut and had to settle for a minor league deal over the winter. He arrives from Syracuse having given up seven runs in eight innings, though most of those came in his first three appearances. The Mets will see if he can help fill A.J. Minter’s shoes or at least Danny Young’s.

Cabrera seemed like a candidate for a major league deal, so the Mets must have been pretty aggressive with their minor league offer to get him to take one this early. The 28-year-old was let go by the Blue Jays earlier this month after posting a 3.59 ERA in 62 2/3 innings last season. He has a career 3.89 ERA in 275 2/3 innings, most of them coming with the Cardinals.
Blue Jays sent LHP Génesis Cabrera and RHP Luis Frias outright to Triple-A Buffalo

Cabrera’s tenure with the Blue Jays is over after posting a respectable 3.34 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 70/35 K/BB ratio across 86 1/3/ innings (98 appearances) over the last two years. The 28-year-old southpaw was set to be arbitration-eligible this offseason for the first time in his career.
