Cincinnati was up 6-1 at one point, but the Giants charged back to tie it in the eighth and then won it on Yastrzemski’s fifth career walkoff homer. He’s batting .344/.462/.594 through 10 games this season. That’s pretty good for someone the Giants were thinking about non-tendering over the winter. Yastrzemski stuck around by accepting a modest $1.35 million raise before the non-tender deadline.

In the biggest hit of the contest, Yastrzemski smacked first-pitch fastball from Bryan Woo for an opposite-field 379-foot (101.9 mph EV) three-run blast that transformed a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 advantage for the Giants. He also drew a walk and struck out twice in the ballgame, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3. On the season, the 34-year-old outfielder is now hitting .333/.484/.458 with one home run and four RBI. He remains an intriguing streaming option in deeper mixed leagues anytime the Giants face a slew of right-handers.

Yastrzemski is batting .282/.341/.667 in 43 plate appearances. He doesn’t have much to offer for fantasy purposes as a platoon lefty hitting in the bottom half of the Giants lineup, but he remains a pretty useful major leaguer at age 34.

No word yet on the reason. Yastrzemski figures to open the regular season as San Francisco’s primary right fielder against right-handed pitching. There should be an update on his status shortly.
