2025 Player Outlook

Hall opened the year as a starter, but he struggled and then spent nearly four months on the injured list. Upon his return, he made a handful of starts but primarily served as a reliever. As a starter last year, he posted a 5.81 ERA and .317 BAA, but as a reliever, those marks sat at 3.00 and .182 respectively. Hall can start in a pinch if needed for the Brewers, but to begin the season, he’ll primarily be a middle/long reliever for the club, as that seems to be where he can make the biggest impact for the team. His changeup is relentless on right-handed hitters, and his wipeout slider wreaks havoc on left-handed hitters. All of that to say, Hall will be better in reality than fantasy in 2025, especially if he stays in a middle/long relief role.

Hall’s placement on the 60-day injured list opens a spot on the 40-man roster for Jose Quintana. Hall has been out with a lat strain and hasn’t thrown since the middle of February, and he won’t be able to rejoin the Brew Crew pitching staff until the end of May.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Tuesday that DL Hall has been shut down from throwing for a few weeks due to a lat injury.

Murphy didn’t divulge the severity of the issue, but it seems likely to impact Hall’s availability for Opening Day. The 26-year-old southpaw was expected to be in the mix for one of the final spots in Milwaukee’s season-opening rotation along with Aaron Ashby, Brandon Woodruff and Aaron Civale. He was limited to just 13 appearances (seven starts) last year due to injury, but looked impressive down the home stretch. Hall offers enough strikeout potential to be a fantasy-relevant contributor, if he stays healthy.

DL Hall was tagged for five runs in three innings Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Hall had impressed since returning from the minors, but his three walks caused problems today, and he gave up five hits despite allowing just three hard-hit balls. It’s possible he’ll get another start against the Diamondbacks next weekend, but it seems more likely that he’ll work in relief instead.
