Tigers recalled RH Brenan Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo.
Hanifee was just optioned to Toledo on Tuesday, but because Beau Brieske (ankle) was placed on the injured list, the Tigers can recall him before the usual mandate of 15 days in the minors. He’ll work in the middle innings with Brieske out.
Tigers optioned RHP Brenan Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo.
Hanifee has been shipped back to the minors to make room for Keider Montero to come up and make a spot start on Wednesday against the Brewers.
Brenan Hanifee will open on Saturday against the Athletics.
Hanifee will take the ball as Detroit’s opener before giving way to rookie southpaw Brant Hurter, who has posted a solid 3.25 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 26/3 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (six appearances, one start) so far, for a bulk relief appearance. There’s definitely some streaming appeal here with Hurter, especially for fantasy managers in extremely deep leagues.
Tigers selected the contract of RHP Brenan Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo.
Hanifee made three relief appearances for Detroit last year and gets the call back to the majors following their flurry of trade deadline moves earlier this week. The 26-year-old righty figures to operate in middle relief after compiling a pedestrian 5.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 53/14 K/BB ratio across 47 innings (34 appearances) this season at the Triple-A level.
