Jose Butto is currently recovering from a groin injury.
The injury is described as “minor,” but it’s enough to keep Butto out of action. The 26-year-old will be a multi-inning option for the Mets when healthy, but his status for Opening Day is now in question.
José Buttó pitched a perfect inning in relief against the Cardinals on Monday.
The Mets have a couple of starters down already, but they still seem committed to Buttó as a reliever for now. It’s kind of a shame; he has a 3.13 ERA in 14 starts over the last two seasons.
José Buttó allowed one run on three hits but preserved a 5-3 win over the White Sox on Saturday.
It was Buttó's third save of the season, but he’s rarely used in a traditional one-inning late-inning role. With Edwin Diaz having pitched in three straight games, the Mets turned to Buttó, who has been one of their most valuable relievers this summer. Given his role as a multi-inning reliever who can also come in to save games when necessary, Buttó is shaping up as one of the most valuable non-closers for fantasy purposes.
José Buttó struck out four over three perfect innings on Thursday in relief against the Braves.
Nine up, nine down. Buttó required just 40 pitches (25 strikes) to carve up Atlanta’s lineup on Wednesday evening at Citi Field and continues to excel in relief for New York, allowing just one run on three hits with a 17/5 K/BB ratio across 13 2/3 innings (seven appearances) since converting to a full-time bullpen role back on July 2.
