Reds signed INF/OF Mark Mathias to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Mathias lands with the Reds, where he’ll presumably compete next spring for a spot on the club’s season-opening roster, after electing free agency last month following his removal from San Francisco’s 40-man roster. The 29-year-old offers a ton of defensive versatility as extra organizational depth, but he’s posted a pedestrian .708 OPS across 199 plate appearances in 73 games for the Brewers, Rangers, Pirates and Giants at the big league level dating back to 2020.
Giants sent INF/OF Mark Mathias outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
Mathias will likely wind up electing free agency after going unclaimed on waivers following his removal from San Francisco’s 40-man roster. The 29-year-old offers plenty of defensive versatility, but holds a pedestrian .708 OPS across 199 plate appearances in 73 games for the Brewers, Rangers, Pirates and Giants at the big league level dating back to 2020.
Giants transferred INF/OF Mark Mathias to the 60-day injured list.
Mathias landed on the injured list last week due to a right shoulder strain and now it appears he’ll be sidelined for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. He went just 2-for-10 with a one scored and two RBI in his limited action with the Giants this season.
Giants placed INF/OF Mark Mathias on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 14, with a right shoulder strain.
Mathias was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, but that option was rescinded on Friday and he was placed on the injured list instead. It’s unclear how long the 29-year-old will be sidelined for.
