The 29-year-old backstop flailed to a meager .167/.183/.211 slash line with just one homer, nine RBI and a 22/1 K/BB ratio over 93 plate appearances with the Rangers during the 2024 season. He’ll add depth behind the plate for the Nationals but can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Knizner is a well traveled depth catcher. He has the option to refuse the assignment, but either way he’ll become a minor league free agent at the end of the season.

Knizner is now off the 40-man roster. It’s possible someone could put in a claim on the 29-year-old to add to their catching depths, but it’s just as likely he finishes the year in Triple-A while becoming a free agent at the end of the year.

Knizner provides Arizona with some emergency catching depth behind Jose Herrera and Adrian Del Castillo while Gabriel Moreno is on the injured list with a left groin strain. The 29-year-old backstop has gotten into 290 contests in the majors dating back to 2019.
