Gordon will augment Kansas City’s organizational depth after signing a minor league contract last month with the Orioles. The 29-year-old has gotten into 338 games in the big leagues dating back to 2021. He’s not a fantasy-relevant contributor at this stage of his career.

Gordon was a minor-league free agent after hitting a paltry .227/.258/.369 in 95 game with the Marlins. The former top prospect will battle for a bench spot with Baltimore, but faces an uphill battle and then some to make the Opening Day roster

Gordon went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 28-year-old, who struggled to a .627 OPS with eight homers and five steals in 95 games this season for Miami, will most likely wind up electing free agency, but could opt to stick around for Miami until the end of the year.

The newly claimed Derek Hill is taking Gordon’s spot on the roster, though it’s Cristian Pache who will likely end up with most of Gordon’s at-bats. Gordon has always lacked plate discipline, but he did used to hit the ball hard. Unfortunately, that’s been lacking this season after he missed most of 2023 with a fractured leg. He had a 44% hard-hit rate and a 90.6-mph average exit velocity in his career coming into this season. In 2024, he’s come in at 30% and 86.1 mph.
