MacKenzie Gore allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Nationals’ 4-3 victory over the Orioles on Friday.
MacKenzie Gore allowed four runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
Gore struck out seven and walked three on the day. He had allowed two runs through the first six innings before faltering in the sixth. Nolan Arenado led off with a double, Ivan Herrera walked two batters later, and then Yohel Pozo singled in Arenado. Victor Scott singled off a reliever to score Herrera and tack on another run. It was a relatively mediocre day overall for Gore, with a 25 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW. He struggled to command his curve and changeup, which put him in trouble a few times. He is still worth a start next week against the Orioles.
MacKenzie Gore (ankle) will start on Sunday against the Cardinals.
Gore experienced some ankle soreness coming out of last weekend’s start against the Reds due to wet field conditions, but he’s been cleared to take the ball for Sunday’s series final against St. Louis. The 26-year-old southpaw has been one of the most impactful starting pitchers in the fantasy landscape this season, recording a pristine 3.33 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 68/13 K/BB ratio across 46 innings (eight starts).
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Monday that MacKenzie Gore is dealing with ankle soreness.
Martinez added that Gore is feeling much better after battling through muddy field conditions on Sunday afternoon against the Reds at a rain-soaked Great American Ball Park. It didn’t impact his performance as he recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just one run over five innings of work. He slipped at one point while delivering a fifth-inning pitch, but it doesn’t sound like he’s in jeopardy of missing his next start on Saturday against the Cardinals.
