Myles Straw went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a loss to the Yankees on Sunday in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Straw is off to a good start for the Blue Jays, slashing .326/.370/.465 so far in the season. However, Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is set to return from the IL on Tuesday, which will force Straw to a bench role in Toronto.
Myles Straw is starting in center field and batting ninth for the Blue Jays on Wednesday against the Braves.
Straw has started three straight games in center field prior to Wednesday and has gone 4-for-11 with a home run over that stretch. If he continues to produce at the plate, he’s likely to keep starting in center field until Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is back.
Blue Jays selected the contract of CF Myles Straw and RHP Jacob Barnes.
Both Straw and Barnes will make the Opening Day roster thanks to injuries ahead of them. Barnes may eventually lose his spot to Erik Swanson or Ryan Burr, who were both placed on the IL, and Myles Straw could head back to the minors when Daulton Varsho returns.
Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider confirmed Sunday that Myles Straw, Alan Roden and Jacob Barnes have made the team’s Opening Day roster.
All three players were non-roster invitees and will still need to officially be added to the Jays’ roster. A spot opened up for Straw to make it on the decision that Daulton Varsho (shoulder) would open the season on the injured list. He made a pretty good case for himself by hitting .400 (12-for-30) with a homer, six RBI and a stolen base in Grapefruit League action. He could wind up being a viable source of stolen bases for fantasy purposes for the week or two that he sees action with Varsho shelved.
