Angels sent INF/OF Cole Tucker outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Tucker batted .180/.263/.300 with three steals in 57 plate appearances over 24 games in a brief stint with the Angels and wound up going unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 27-year-old appears likely to stick around as extra organizational depth for now.
Angels designated INF/OF Cole Tucker for assignment.
Tucker hit just .180/.263/.300 in 57 plate appearances for the Angels. He still offers plenty of defensive versatility, but it’s just not enough to justify a roster spot.
Cole Tucker is starting at third base for the Angels and hitting eighth against the Pirates on Monday.
Tucker was called up a week ago and has now started in four games, including the last two at this base. The 27-year-old is 5-for-12 with two doubles, a run, an RBI, and three steals so far. The former Pirates prospect hasn’t been able to sustain any production at the MLB level, but he was showing a more aggressive, pull-centric approach at Triple-A and has been running often in his brief stint with the Angels. He could be worth a dart throw in AL-only and other deep formats to see if he can carve out a full-time job for the banged-up Angels.
Angels purchased the contract of INF Cole Tucker from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Tucker is taking the roster spot of Aaron Hicks after Hicks was removed from the roster after being designated for assignment. Tucker played well for the Bees before his promotion with a .908 OPS, and Tucker should see some at-bats for the not-so-good Los Angeles lineup.
