Some Triple-A depth for Baltimore. Tromp opened the season as Atlanta’s backup catcher, but he was DFA’d and opted for free agency after the Braves chose Drake Baldwin over him with Sean Murphy back. The 30-year-old Tromp has hit .224/.235/.385 in 162 plate appearances over parts of six major league seasons.

He’s elected free agency. The Braves deemed Tromp expendable in keeping Drake Baldwin over him when Sean Murphy came off the IL. They still have Sandy León in Triple-A if they need another catcher at some point.

With Travis d’Arnaud back from the Paternity List, the Braves will send Tromp back to the minors. The 29-year-old was up with the big league team for three days but didn’t appear in any games.
