Giants signed RHP Ljay Newsome to a minor league contract.
The 26-year-old hurler made his way back from Tommy John surgery late in 2022, posting a 4.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 12/2 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 innings across three minor league levels for the Cardinals. He'll be fully healthy and ready to go when pitchers and catchers report in February and looks like a nice depth signing for the Giants.
Ljay Newsome (elbow) will start a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday with the Cardinals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.
Newsome, who is recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery last year, was claimed off waivers from the Mariners during the offseason and set outright to Triple-A Memphis shortly afterwards. The 25-year-old righty has a shot at working his way into the Cardinals' pitching mix later this year.
Cardinals outrighted RHP Ljay Newsome to Triple-A Memphis.
Newsome was claimed off waivers on October 22 by the Cardinals from the Mariners, but the 25-year-old is recovering from Tommy John surgery and won't likely be ready until the middle of 2022. He could elect free agency.
Cardinals claimed RHP Ljay Newsome off waivers from the Mariners.
Newsome is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and likely won't be ready to pitch until at least midseason next year. When healthy, the 25-year-old's great control gives him a shot to be a back-end starter.
