Warren struggled to an 8.51 ERA across 28 appearances this season in New York’s system after signing a minor league contract last December. The 31-year-old righty hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2022 season due to injury.

Warren was cut loose from the Reds in November, a month after requiring surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow. The belief is that he'll be fully recovered from that procedure at some point during the 2023 season, but this is an organizational depth type of signing for New York with more of an eye toward 2024.

The 29-year-old hurler had extreme highs and lows during the 2022 season. At one point, he was the Reds closer and notched three saves, but his production fell off substantially and he ultimately logged a 6.50 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 36 innings. He then wound up undergoing surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow in September -- though he is expected to be ready to return for the 2023 season.

The Reds did some roster shuffling on Sunday, moving Warren to the 60-day injured list. The 29-year-old right-hander was already set to miss the rest of the season after undergoing right elbow surgery. The expectation is that he'll be good to return for the 2023 season.
