Rangers optioned INF Jake Burger to Triple-A Round Rock.
It sounds like the Rangers just want to give the slumping slugger a couple of weeks to reset and clear his head before returning to the big league club. As expected, Blaine Crim had his contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock and will replace Burger on the active roster.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rangers plan to demote slumping infielder Jake Burgery to Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers plan to promote first baseman Blaine Crim from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster. Burger has slashed just .190/.231/.330 with three homers, 12 RBI and a 32/3 K/BB ratio in his first 30 games with the Rangers. They’re hopeful that he’ll be able to get himself back on track at the Triple-A level before rejoining the Rangers.
Jake Burger went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs scored on Tuesday night as the Rangers routed the Athletics.
Burger was hit by a pitch in the second inning of this one and scored the game’s first run on a two-out RBI single by Josh Smith. He then added a run-scoring single in the third inning that made it a 2-0 ballgame. The 29-year-old slugger also walked and scored in the sixth then doubled and scored in the eighth inning. He’s had a rough first month with the Rangers, slashing an anemic .196/.240/.348 with only three homers and 12 RBI.
Jake Burger went 0-for-2 with two RBI against the Giants on Saturday.
Burger brought both of the Rangers runs in to score Saturday with a pair of sacrifice fly balls. It much the same for both teams with strong pitching performances. The 29-year-old slugger is still trying to get going at the plate, hitting .171/.205/.317 with three homers and 11 RBI across 88 plate appearances.
