Lou Trivino made the Giants bullpen.
It’s a great comeback for the 33-year-old, who has not pitched in an MLB game since 2022. He has a career 3.76 ERA and didn’t allow a single run this spring while striking out 10 and walking four in 9 1/3 innings.
Giants signed RHP Lou Trivino to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Trivino hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2022 after a series of arm injuries, but he recently threw for scouts and the Giants obviously came away impressed. From 2020-2022, Trivino had a 3.76 ERA and a 24.5 percent strikeout rate as a member of the Athletics and Yankees. If he’s fully healthy, the 33-year-old could be a useful piece of the Giants bullpen.
Loui Trivino completed a bullpen session in front of scouts in Palm Beach on Tuesday.
Pat Ragazzo reports that Trivino was clocked up to 94 mph while throwing at Cressey Sports Performance. The 33-year-old right-hander hasn’t been able to pitch in the majors since 2022 in the ALCS because of elbow issues, and had his $5 million club option for 2025 declined by the Yankees in November. Trivino was a very strong bullpen opton before those injuries, however, and it won’t be surprising to see a team taking a chance on him before the start of the year.
Yankees declined RHP Lou Trivino’s $5 million club option for 2025.
Trivino hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2022 ALCS due to an elbow strain and subsequent Tommy John surgery. He threw a total of 11 innings in the minor leagues during the 2024 campaign before being shut down in September with a sore shoulder. The 33-year-old hurler is now free to peddle his wares on the open market.
