Brought in with the Marlins down two in the sixth, Jesus Tinoco gave up three runs and retired just one batter Wednesday against the Dodgers.
Tinoco has two of the Marlins’ last three saves, but he didn’t help the cause today. He entered with a man on first and two outs in the sixth and gave up a walk, a two-run triple (which really should have been caught), a two-run homer and a single before finally finishing the inning. His sloppy performance also got fellow Marlins closing option Anthony Bender charged with a run for the guy he left on first. Tinoco came into the day having pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his last six appearances. His bad outing is probably a little bit of good news for those rostering Calvin Faucher. Still, we wouldn’t recommend any Marlins reliever outside of deep leagues.
Jesus Tinoco fired a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Reds to collect his second save of the season.
Tinoco got the call to protect a three-run advantage in the final frame with both Anthony Bender and Calvin Faucher likely unavailable after both throwing over 20 pitches during Sunday’s series finale against the Phillies. He got Jake Fraley and Noelvi Marte to fly out before coaxing a game-ending pop up from Jose Trevino.
Marlins activated RHP Jesus Tinoco from the 15-day injured list.
No rehab assignment for Tinoco, who landed on the IL with a back strain after pitching a scoreless inning on Opening Day. He struggled this spring with his velocity down some, but if he performs better now, he could become part of the closing mix in Miami.
Marlins placed RHP Jesus Tinoco on the 15-day injured list with retroactive to March 28 with a left low back strain.
Tinoco is going to be on the shelf for at least 15 days with a back injury. While it’s not an arm injury, this leaves Anthony Bender and Calvin Faucher as the possible options for save opportunities with the Marlins. RHP Luarbert Arias was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to take Tinoco’s spot on the active roster.
