Tigers non-tendered OF Austin Meadows.
This move certainly doesn’t come as a surprise, and ends Meadows’ tenure with the Tigers after playing in only 42 games over his two seasons there. The 28-year-old outfielder has been away from baseball for most of the last two years while battling anxiety, and it’s unclear if he has any current plans to continue his playing career.
Tigers’ manager A.J. Hinch confirmed Saturday that Austin Meadows (anxiety) has been shut down for the remainder of the 2023 season.
The 28-year-old outfielder has been sidelined early April due to mental health reasons. He has been away from the team for the majority of that time — undergoing treatment near his home in Florida. Hopefully he continues to get the help that he needs and will be ready to contribute to the Tigers in 2024 — if he chooses to do so.
Austin Meadows (anxiety) hasn’t begun baseball activities, and there is currently no plan for him to begin.
