Ranger Suarez allowed seven runs in 3 2/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Suarez gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out six. It was a rough return for Suarez, who was making his first start of 2025. The 29-year-old left-hander tossed two scoreless innings before things fell apart allowing three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning. While Suarez got hit around against a good lineup, he still struck out six batters. Suarez is set to face Guardians on the road next weekend.
Phillies activated LHP Ranger Suárez off the 15-day injured list.
Suárez is off the injured list ahead of Sunday’s start against the Diamondbacks. It’ll be the first outing of the season for the 29-year-old at the highest level. To make room for him, José Ruiz was placed on the 15-day injured list with neck spasms. Suárez is worthy of fantasy consideration, but the D-Backs lineup could present some challenges in his first start back.
Ranger Suárez (back) will make his season debut on Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Suárez will join Philadelphia’s rotation this weekend for his season debut with ace Zack Wheeler being pushed back to Tuesday’s series opener against the Reds. The 29-year-old southpaw has been on the shelf since spring training recovering from a back issue. It’ll likely be Taijuan Walker heading back to a relief role next week, unless the Phillies want to stick with a six-man rotation.
Ranger Suárez (back) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
It’s a bit unclear what the next steps are for Suárez with Taijuan Walker set to take the ball on Thursday against the Nationals. The 29-year-old lefty threw 78 pitches over the weekend in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and figures to be an option for the Phillies’ rotation at some point next week.
