Andrés Machado has signed with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Machado was granted his release earlier this week to pursue an opportunity overseas and we finally know where he’s headed. The 30-year-old righty wound up making 135 relief appearances for the Nationals over the last three years, finishing with a serviceable 4.03 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 119/54 K/BB ratio across 145 innings of work. He’ll aim to rebuild his value in Japan next year.

According to a team statement, Machado has been granted his release to pursue an opportunity overseas in Japan this offseason. The 30-year-old righty made 135 relief appearances for the Nationals over the past three seasons.
Nationals selected the contract of RHP Andrés Machado from Rochester Red Wings.
Machado gets another chance in the bullpen after posting a 4.08 ERA and a 35/6 K/BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings in Triple-A. The veteran was dropped from the roster and cleared waivers earlier this year after giving up 16 runs in 17 innings for the Nationals.
Nationals sent RHP Andrés Machado outright to Triple-A Rochester.
Machado passed through waivers unclaimed earlier this week after being designated for assignment and will presumably stick around as extra organizational relief depth for the Nationals. The 30-year-old righty does have the option to elect free agency.
