Emilio Pagán tossed a perfect ninth inning on Monday against the Cardinals to notch his eighth save of the season.
Pagán was summoned to protect a two-run lead and needed just seven pitches (six strikes to slam the door, coaxing a ground out from Willson Contreras before getting Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado to fly out harmlessly.
Emilio Pagán allowed one run while striking out three to record the save against the Rockies on Saturday.
Pagán was summoned to close out the game with a three-run lead in the ninth against the Rockies. He walked a batter and allowed a run in on a double before striking out the side for his seventh save of the season. The 33-year-old right-hander is pitching well as the Reds’ closer, posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.53 WHIP across 13 1/3 innings.
Emilio Pagán struck out two batters in a clean inning to earn the save against the Rockies on Friday.
Working with a one run lead is always scary, especially in Colorado. Pagán worked a clean inning though and didn’t allow a moment of stress. He’s also begun to run away with the Reds’ closer job. He’s earned their last four saves and Reds’ manager Terry Francona has stuck with him despite a rough blown save in the middle of this run against the Mariners. It seems like this bullpen no longer has a closer by committee.
Emilio Pagán pitched a flawless ninth with a three-run lead for his fifth save Wednesday against the Reds.
Flawless in Miami. If he’d been pitching in Tampa, though, he’d have given up two homers, according to Statcast. All three batters he faced hit flyballs in the 330- to 350-foot range. Matt Mervis hit a ball that would have been a homer in only Tampa. Otto Lopez’s was a homer in seven ballparks. Pagán improved to 5-for-6 in save chances, and Alexis Díaz doesn’t seem to be shaping up as much of a threat to his job.
