Angels sent RHP César Valdez outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Valdez unsurprisingly went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week and will likely opt to remain with the Angels as extra organizational relief depth. The 38-year-old right-hander was only with Los Angeles for one game and didn't wind up getting into that contest.
Angels designated RHP César Valdez for assignment.
Valdez was brought up from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Monday's series opener against the Astros and didn't get into that contest. The 38-year-old veteran righty reliever has been jettisoned from the Angels' 40-man roster to clear a spot for catcher Chris Okey. There's a strong possibility that he goes unclaimed on waivers and remains with Los Angeles as extra organizational depth.

Valdez has been summoned to provide the Angels with some extra middle relief depth ahead of Monday's series opener against the division-rival Astros. The 38-year-old veteran righty made one relief appearance last year for Los Angeles and re-signed last December on a minor league contract. He's allowed 22 runs (21 earned) with a 25/12 K/BB ratio across 26 innings (seven appearances, four starts) this season for Triple-A Salt Lake.
Angels re-signed RHP Cesar Valdez to a minor league contract.
The 37-year-old returns to the Angels organization after electing free agency in early October. Valdez spent most of the season in Triple-A Salt Lake where he tossed three complete games, which lead the minor leagues. He finished with a 3.94 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 123/22 K/BB ratio over 146 1/3 innings of work. He will serve as organizational pitching depth for Los Angeles.
