Mitch Garver (hand) is back in the lineup Saturday against the Padres.
Garver has been nursing a hand injury, but he not only is back in the lineup, he’s catching during the Cactus League contest while hitting cleanup. Garver should be fine for Opening Day.
Mitch Garver, who was hit on the hand by a pitch Monday, said he hopes to resume swinging before the end of the week.
Garver stated that his hand feels about 80 percent right now. X-rays came back negative on Tuesday.

The Mariners’ trainers and team doctor will look at Garver on Wednesday and see if a CT scan is necessary, but the team seems to believe that they have avoided any major issue. Garver remains on track to begin the season as the backup to Cal Raleigh.

It’s never a positive sign to see a player immediately exit after being hit by a pitch in the hand area, but Garver’s exit appears to be precautionary, at a bare minimum. The 34-year-old veteran slugged two-run homer — his third round-tripper of the spring — against Brewers starter Tobias Myers during his first at-bat of the Cactus League contest prior to being hit by a pitch his next time up. There should be an additional update on his status shortly.
