Amed Rosario went 3-for-6 with a three-run homer and an RBI double as the Nationals took down the Reds 11-6 on Saturday.
Both extra-base hits came off Nick Lodolo. With four more today, Rosario has 24 hard-hit balls this season, giving him a 46% hard-hit rate far better than his career mark of 37%. Maybe it doesn’t mean much, and since he’s only playing against lefties right now, he’s not an option in mixed leagues. Still, he’s someone who could offer a little value if the Nationals decide to roll him out regularly,
Amed Rosario extended his run of spring futility by going 0-for-5 against the Mets on Saturday.
.171/.167/.195 is Rosario’s line in 42 plate appearances this spring. He hasn’t been able to insert himself into the mix at third base for the Nationals, though the team doesn’t seem to like him there anyway; he’s thus far started five times at second, four times at short, twice in left and just once at third.
Amed Rosario was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup with a minor knee injury.
Rosario told reporters that he would’ve played if it were a regular season game, but he didn’t want to take any chances. He should return to Washington’s lineup at some point later this week.
Nationals agreed to terms with INF Amed Rosario to a one-year contract.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman says it’s a $2 million deal. Rosario has not been getting much love from MLB teams of late, but he did hit a respectable .280/.306/.380 for the Rays, Dodgers and Reds last season. If the Nationals were to make him their third baseman, he could offer some mixed-league value with his ability to hit for average and steal bases. However, he’ll probably be more of a utilityman initially.
