Angels placed 3B Yoan Moncada on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb sprain.
This seemed like it was coming when Moncada was removed from Wednesday’s game after aggravating his injury. The Angels have not given a set timeline for his return, but Luis Rengifo will play third base with Kyren Paris at second base. The Angels called up J.D. Davis to take Moncada’s spot on the active roster.
Yoán Moncada was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Rays with right thumb soreness.
It might not be a terrible idea for Moncada to take a trip to the injured list to deal with a lingering thumb issue that’s been bothering him since the late stages of spring training. It wouldn’t be a huge problem for the Angels since the emergence of Kyren Paris enables them to shift Luis Rengifo across the diamond to cover the hot corner.

Moncada struck out in his lone at-bat before leaving the contest in the second inning. Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters late Tuesday that Moncada has been dealing with some left side soreness in addition to a lingering thumb issue that’s been bothering him since spring training. It certainly sounds like he’s going to need a couple days off to put these lingering problems to bed.

Moncada is back in the lineup after missing three consecutive contests with his thumb troubles. He’ll hit sixth and handle the hot corner, and Luis Rengifo will get a day off in the series finale against Tampa Bay.
