Zach Eflin was victorious in his return from the injured list on Sunday, giving up just two runs on five hits over his five frames.

Eflin walked two and struck out five opposing hitters on the afternoon. The Angels had him on the ropes early in this one, as Taylor Ward smacked an RBI double and Logan O’Hoppe followed with an RBI single in the opening inning, but he settled in nicely after that and finished his day with four scoreless innings. The 31-year-old right-hander got eight whiffs on 83 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He now sits at 3-1 on the season with a 3.13 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 13/3 K/BB ratio over 23 innings through his first four starts. He shouldn’t have any sort of pitch count limitations when he battles the Nationals his next time out at home on Saturday.

Eflin returns to Baltimore’s rotation to take the ball for Sunday’s series finale against the Angels following a nearly five-week absence recovering from a low-grade lat strain. The 31-year-old righty lacks stratospheric strikeout upside, but he’s a quality option for fantasy managers as a top-60 range starting pitcher.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told reporters that Zach Eflin (lat) is likely to return and start Sunday against the Angels

It was assumed that Eflin would be back this weekend, but now we have a concrete date. The 31-year-old may not be at full strength after throwing fewer than 60 pitches in his rehab start, but the Orioles feel confident enough to have the right-hander back on the bump for the series finale against the Angels.

Zach Eflin (lat) will return this weekend to start against the Angels.

Eflin got through Wednesday’s bullpen session without any issues and has been cleared to take the ball this weekend against the Angels. The 31-year-old righty has been out since early April recovering from a low-grade lat strain. He’s worthy of a roster spot in deeper mixed leagues, even if he doesn’t offer astronomical strikeout upside.
