Mets optioned RHP Chris Devenski to Triple-A Syracuse.
Devenski, just called up Wednesday, returns to the minors after giving up two runs in two innings in his season debut last night.
Mets selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse.
Devenski gets the call to the majors to replace an injured Danny Young (elbow) in New York’s bullpen. The 34-year-old journeyman has made 303 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2016. He’ll operate in low-leverage spots for the Mets.
Mets reassigned RHP Chris Devenski, INF Donovan Walton, C Jakson Reetz and LHP Génesis Cabrera and RHP José Ureña to minor league camp.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza made it official that Reed Garrett, José Butto and Danny Young will open the year in New York’s bullpen. The decision to jettison Walton leaves Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña as the Mets’ primary bench options, but they haven’t officially made the team yet, added Mendoza. It also means that A.J. Minter and Dedniel Nuñez are probably headed to the injured list.
Mets signed RHP Chris Devenski to a minor league contract.
Devenski has bounced around between several organizations over the last couple seasons and is at least a half-decade removed from being one of the better relievers in the game. The 33-year-old veteran will compete for a spot in New York’s bullpen next spring after struggling last year in 19 relief outings with the Rays.
