Pirates transferred LHP Tim Mayza to the 60-day injured list.
Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 33-year-old southpaw — who will be shut down from throwing for at least the next six weeks — this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Matt Gorski who was promoted from Triple-A on Thursday.
Tim Mayza (lat) will be shut down from throwing for six weeks.
Mayza hit the injured list over the weekend with a left lat strain and won’t resume throwing until the end of May. He’s likely out until the early portion of the second half.
Pirates optioned LHP Tim Mayza to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Pirates signed LHP Tim Mayza to a one-year, $1.15 million contract.
The deal is now official. Mayza supplements Pittsburgh’s left-handed relief depth after splitting last year between the Blue Jays and Yankees. The 33-year-old southpaw was a mainstay in Toronto’s bullpen for the previous few seasons before struggling last year to the point that he was released in early July.
