Carlos Estévez gave up two hits, but held the Rays scoreless to pick up a save Wednesday.
Carlos Estévez slammed the door on the Rays on Tuesday evening in Tampa Bay, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run advantage.
Estévez came on after Lucas Erceg gave up a couple of hits in a scoreless eighth inning. The right-hander started the inning by striking out Travis Jankowski after an eight-pitch battle. He then allowed Jose Caballero to reach on an infield single before retiring Danny Jansen on a fly ball to left. He then got Chandler Simpson on a ground ball to end it. Estévez has now converted eight of his first 10 save chances on the season while registering a tidy 2.57 ERA.

Estévez was given Friday off, allowing Lucas Erceg to pick up a save, but he was back out there tonight for the fifth time in eight days. If the Royals don’t want to him tomorrow, Erceg will be available for a save chance.

Estévez took a blown save against his old team on Tuesday, but he had no issues today. After throwing 12 pitches in the first game, he might be available against in the second game. If not, Daniel Lynch IV could be the choice to close, since Lucas Erceg also pitched in the first game.
