Braves activated RHP Pierce Johnson from the 15-day injured list.
Johnson returns to bolster Atlanta’s high-leverage relief mix following a two-week absence due to right elbow inflammation. The 33-year-old righty was a revelation last year for the Braves following a midseason trade from the Rockies and boasts a stellar 16/5 K/BB ratio across 12 innings of work this season.
Pierce Johnson (elbow) threw a live batting practice session on Wednesday without any issues.
It doesn’t sound like he’s going to require a minor league rehab assignment, so if the Braves felt good about how Wednesday’s session went, Johnson could return from the injured list on Friday. Before landing on the shelf with right elbow inflammation, he had posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work.
Atlanta placed RHP Pierce Johnson on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.
Pierce Johnson notched his first save with a scoreless ninth against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
The Braves picked Johnson with Raisel Iglesias unavailable after working Friday and Saturday. It’s his first save since he was acquired from the Rockies last summer. He was closing for Colorado then, having picked up 13 saves in the first four months of the year.
