Dean return from Korea on a minor-league contract this offseason but couldn't convince the Twins to keep him around. As a 29-year-old with a 6.28 ERA in his lone big-league season back in 2016, he's unlikely to make a significant impact at the top level this year.

The 29-year-old lefty had spent seven years in the Twins' organizations, reaching the big leagues in 2016. He failed to impress at the highest level, finishing with a 6.28 ERA in 67.1 innings. He spent last season with the Kia Tigers of the KBO in South Korea, throwing 129.1 innings with a 6.26 ERA. He's unlikely to be anything more than organizational depth this season.

The lefty really struggled in his debut season of 2016, so it makes sense that he was released and will now have to try his luck in the Asian baseball market. If he does well overseas, his second major league chance will come around.

The Twins are doing a lot of housekeeping on Monday, as they have sent a myriad of their pitchers to Triple-A. This is a purge that often happens when a team stinks so badly on the mound for a full season. Dean has a chance to make the major league roster next season, but he will have to earn it in spring.
