Rangers signed RHP JT Chargois to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Chargois, who played his college ball in the Lone Star state at Rice University, heads to Rangers camp as extra organizational relief depth after compiling a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 30/13 K/BB ratio across 36 1/3 innings (36 appearances) last year between the Marlins and Mariners. The 34-year-old veteran relievers has become a bit more brittle in his 30’s, but he remains an effective middle relief option, when healthy. He’ll compete in the Cactus League for a spot in the Rangers’ season-opening bullpen.

This one doesn’t come as a big surprise as the 33-year-old right-hander had already been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He pitched well during his time in the big leagues in 2024 though, compiling a 2.23 ERA, .102 WHIP and a 30/13 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 frames between the M’s and the Marlins. He won’t be out of work for long.

The deal is now official. Chargois heads to Seattle to bolster their middle relief mix after being limited to just 15 appearances this season due to neck issues. The 33-year-old right-hander has made 223 career appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2016.
