Royals released C Luke Maile.
Maile exercised the opt-out clause in his contract after he was informed that he didn’t make the Royals’ Opening Day roster. The 34-year-old backstop hit .333 with one home run and three RBI in 10 games this spring. Maile hit just .178 with two home runs and eight RBI in 53 games with the Reds in 2024. He’ll look to catch on with another organization in need of catching depth.
Royals signed C Luke Maile to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 34-year-old veteran backstop will be in big league camp to add some depth behind the plate. Maile was a disaster at the plate in his limited action with the Reds in 2024 — slashing a putrid .178/.268/.252 with just two homers and eight RBI.
Reds declined their one-year, $3.5 million team option on C Luke Maile.
The 33-year-old backstop will receive a $500,000 buyout as he hits the free agent market. Maile struggled mightily in 154 plate appearances with the Reds during the 2024 season, flailing wildly to a .178/.268/.252 slash line with only two homers and eight RBI. He’ll probably have to settle for a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training elsewhere this winter.
Reds activated C Luke Maile from the 10-day injured list.
The 33-year-old backstop has been sidelined since the first week of July due to a herniated disc in his back. He’ll return to his role as the primary backup to Tyler Stephenson behind the plate, with Eric Yang heading back to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move on Friday.
