Giants reassigned INF Sergio Alcántara, RHP Justin Garza, LHP Antonio Jimenez, LHP Helcris Olivarez and C Adrian Sugastey to minor league camp.
Alcántara and Garza are the most prominent inclusions among the latest batch of cuts for San Francisco as they continue to pare down their camp roster. Olivarez was a notable pitching prospect a couple years ago, but has been derailed by injuries.

Alcántara augments San Francisco’s infield depth heading into next season as a capable defender at several spots. The 28-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since getting into 192 contests between the Tigers, Cubs, Diamondbacks and Padres from 2020 to 2022. He batted .271/.388/.416 with eight homers and eight steals across 123 contests last season at the Triple-A level.

Alcántara returns for another stint with Arizona after getting into 71 contests for the club during the 2022 campaign. The 27-year-old infielder has bounced around the last few season between several organizations at the Triple-A level. He’s merely emergency infield depth at this stage of his career.

The 27-year-old infielder .268/.374/.402 with eight homers and 51 RBI over 403 plate appearances at the Triple-A level with the Diamondbacks and Cubs during the 2023 season. He’ll add infield depth for the Pirates and can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.
